Changing Pad, Burping Pad, Lap Pad... All Three Rolled Into One

Image
After making a reversible flannel blanket, I had a touch of the print flannel fabric left over.  I decided to  try and find a use for it.  I coupled it with a solid, light pink flannel and cut both into four rectangles 15 inches by 20 inches.  I used one solid and one print to make one pad.  I rounded the corners and serged the edge and voila... 2 changing pads, burping pads or lap pads.  Too easy! I made the blanket out of the same print flannel shown above and backed it with a light blue flannel, trimmed out in yellow blanket trim.  I love the colors in the print flannel.  So cute! Last week at the baby shower a lady was wearing a nursing sling. Have you seen those? Man, they are so cool. I would say her little boy was about 18 - 20 months and she carried him in it while nursing and was able to keep her privacy. I was amazed that just a piece of fabric could do so much! I found a website that sells a version called the Maya Wrap, and it looks a lot like the o

Box Full of Baby Goodies

The baby shower for Harper was yesterday. She had a great turn out of family to celebrate the anticipation of her birth sometime in June. She is going to be the best dressed  baby girl in town! Christa was absolutely glowing with pride and excitement! I have had so much fun getting ready for Baby Harper! Although she is not my first grandchild (not by a long shot!) she is the first one to be born since I have taken up sewing again, I had forgotten how much I enjoyed sewing for children! I made a few things last summer for my grand-daughters and plan to make a lot more, but it has really been fun getting ready for a newborn! Packing the box for the shower gift was so much fun, I had bought a few things, a book of lullabies with the cd to match, the wireless video baby monitor they wanted, a couple of wrist rattlers, two door hangers one that says, "shh, mommy is napping" and one that says,  "quiet, the princess is sleeping", and a set of smal

Here are my answers: 1.  I dream of a world filled with peace and happiness.   I know that sounds like a cop out, but that is really what I dream about. 2.  Wow not sure I want to think about my last meal, but it would be a filet mignon steak grilled to perfection, my husband's broccoli casserole, baked potato filled with  butter, sour cream and cheese and a huge glass of sweet tea! YUM 3.  My

Dress For Baby Harper

This was such  a joyous project and so much fun!  I love the Kwik Sew pattern #3901 and it all went together like a breeze! I really love the fabric and the colors.   I think the colors really compliment each other. This was the first time I have ever made little bloomers.  They look so cute, even unfinished! But finished they are even cuter!  I love the skirt effect!  This pattern does have some ruffles,  but using a zig zag stitch over a piece of yarn to make your gathers is much easier then doing the two rows of stitching.  If you have never tried the zig zag over yarn trick, try it next time you do gathers.  I love it, gathers don't even worry me any more!  (I hope to one day have a ruffling foot, that would even be better!) I added a little bow to the right lower front.  I just felt it needed a little something. The Pattern called for the back to close the other way, but I guess I am just opposite of normal lol, I like it with the

Getting The Most From Your Multisize Patterns

Image
Buying a multisize pattern is a great way to make your sewing dollars go further, but not if you have to trim it away just to make one size. I have found that tracing the pattern onto either wax paper or freezer paper can give you great results without ruining you paper pattern, thus allowing you to use it again for a different size. I prefer using wax paper because it is easy to see through.  To do this you will need: 1.  a roll of wax paper 2.  tracing wheel 3.  permanent marker or ink pen( I prefer an ink pen as a marker sometimes smudges) 4.  multisize pattern of your choice. 5.  zip lock bag I am tracing a Kwik Sew pattern for a baby.  I love Kwik Sew patterns, they use such a great grade of paper for their patterns.  This pattern is extra easy because all the pieces fit within the width of the wax paper, but if yours do not you can simply tape as many pieces together as you find necessary. After determining which size you are going to use, place a piece of wax p

If you were in the "Miss America" (or another) talent competition, what would your talent be? 4. What is one thing you miss about being a kid? 5. Everything From Rolled Hems to Toothpicks!

Image
I sure have been missing the lake this week. I guess all the wonderful memories of Buddy reminded me how much I loved living at the lake. I don't miss it much during the winter months, but when spring is here, I long to be back there, riding on the pontoon boat and enjoying all the activities that come with living on the water! Maybe one day I will retire to the beach, that is my dream retirement! This has been a week of reflection and I really have not done very much other than reflect. LOL  I did get around to making a table runner for my daughter and hemmed it using  the rolled hem stitch on my serger.  It turned out great!  It was the first time I used it on this serger and I was amazed at how easy it was to do.  I will be using it a lot more often! My niece is learning how to sew, and she is doing a great job!  She recently made some curtains for her home and some throw pillows( without any patterns I might add!).  She sent me photos and I am very proud of her.
