No matter what the problem, I could always find helpful information about how to rectify it. Be it through her blog, her books or the many videos, she always offered new and exciting information along with helpful tips for all kinds of sewing problems.<br />
<br />
I started watching Sewing With Nancy in the early 1980's. I never missed a Saturday morning (my children did not appreciate the fact they were missing some of their beloved cartoons).With coffee and pencil and paper in hand, I was in do- not- disturb mode for thirty wonderful minutes! The information she could cover in that short amount of time was amazing and I quickly found myself living for each new episode. I am still a fan and pray they do not replace her show, but continue to show reruns for a very long time. She was by far the best. All the present and future beginner sewist are going to miss out on so much.<br />
<br />
So here is to you Nancy, thank you for all you have done for us in this wonderful world of sewing. I, as well as millions of others, will miss you terribly. Rest in Peace dear, sweet teacher.<br />

</div>
What fun, what fun, what fun! I have been working on my machine embroidery and machine applique skills and man have I had fun!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So many wonderful designs are online and most can be downloaded at just the touch of the "download now" button! One of my favorite sites is <a href="http://www.amazingdesigns.com/" target="_blank">Amazing Designs</a>, they not only offer design collections and individual designs but also offer wonderful software for editing designs just the way you want them. I have had such fun creating my own designs using an image from one collection and adding text to it. All of their products are very reasonable and they are also having a great sale now until June 30. Another great site to buy and download collections or individual designs is <a href="http://www.embroidables.com/" target="_blank">Embroidables</a>, they have darling designs. <a href="http://www.happyapplique.com/" target="_blank">Happy Applique</a> has some of the cutest machine appliques I have ever seen! Their individual designs are very inexpensive and download in a matter of seconds. <a href="http://www.nancysnotions.com/" target="_blank">Nancy's Notions</a> also has some great designs. If you are into embroidery or applique check out these websites. You will love what you find!<br />

My husband has been ill and is slowly recovering, it has been a very long process. He spent 16 days in the hospital last October and 8 of those days were spent in Intensive Care Units. The two main arteries going to his intestines were blocked and it took the doctors what seemed like forever to discover what was going on. I almost lost him, my world almost crumbled, but with God's help he survived and is on his way to a slow but complete recovery.<br />
<br />
On top of my husband's illness, my daughter was in ICU a couple of weeks ago. Her son found her unconscious and having seizures. Turns out her doctor had her on meds that should not be taken together. It was a very intense time until she regained consciousness and was able to be moved out of ICU and into her own room. I am happy to say she is recovering and getting stronger and healthier every day. There was some fear that her heart had been permanently damaged, but it has also found its way to a complete recovery and is as good as new (thankfully).<br />
<br />
I would like to take a moment to thank my friends and family for all the prayers. The strength I received from you is beyond words and we would have never made it through without you.<br />
<br />
These near death experiences for my husband and daughter have been a wake-up call and reminder that I have so very much to be thankful for. My life is filled with love and joy as I continue to nurse my husband back to a full and healthy life and watch my daughter continue with her life and the business of raising her wonderful family. Thank you God for all of your blessings.<br />
<br />
I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving, and remember to be thankful for all you have not only on Thanksgiving but every day. Let those you love know it today, you never know what tomorrow will bring.<br />
<br />
See you soon,<br />
Happy sewing and creating<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4yxPMCMVPqw/UE051DCl2pI/AAAAAAAACvM/WamLED2a0ow/s1600/korkers+020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4yxPMCMVPqw/UE051DCl2pI/AAAAAAAACvM/WamLED2a0ow/s320/korkers+020.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Korker ribbon is a fun project for a weekend afternoon! True it is time consuming, but it is also very rewarding! With just a little patience and a lot of ribbon you can make quite a mound of korkers! It is like Christmas when I open my oven and see all those wonderful Korker Ribbons!<br />
<br />
I know one thing for sure, I am going to invest in a wood burning tool. Using the cigarette lighter to seal the edges begins to hurt my thumb after a while and with the wood burning tool you can cut and seal all at the same time!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E3RbMMwH1xU/UFEsWWT7Z2I/AAAAAAAACv8/x-9m1BwN_sw/s1600/woodburning.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E3RbMMwH1xU/UFEsWWT7Z2I/AAAAAAAACv8/x-9m1BwN_sw/s1600/woodburning.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
To make korker ribbons you will need<br />
ribbon ( I use 1/8 or 3/8 but you can use any size you choose)<br />
wooden dowels ( I use quarter inch, but play around and choose your size)<br />
clothespins<br />
baking pan<br />
oven,<br />
timer,<br />
scissors or rotary cutter.<br />
something to seal the edges (lighter, woodburning tool, or seam sealant).<br />
<br />
Begin by setting your oven to 275. I use an oven thermometer just to double check my temp. Begin wrapping the ribbon onto a quarter inch dowel. I used 3/8 ribbon. I try to keep it straight, with no spaces and tight. Secure the ends with the clothespins.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eB4yhvEucgE/UFEskLz_tgI/AAAAAAAACwM/8DxsKMeUTzQ/s1600/korkers+004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eB4yhvEucgE/UFEskLz_tgI/AAAAAAAACwM/8DxsKMeUTzQ/s320/korkers+004.JPG" width="114" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Place the ribbon wrapped dowels in a baking pan (I line mine with foil but this is just my preference) and place in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Be sure to set a timer, you don't want to forget about them ( I am speaking from experience here).<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--jiHk7lHtEQ/UFEsiy_VWmI/AAAAAAAACwE/clwhdZhjViM/s1600/korkers+001+-+Copy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/--jiHk7lHtEQ/UFEsiy_VWmI/AAAAAAAACwE/clwhdZhjViM/s320/korkers+001+-+Copy.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
After 25 minutes take them out of the oven and allow to cool. The magic is about to happen!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-U5A5DGJ3eCo/UFEsp7Cl3NI/AAAAAAAACws/pi0H0XxYSp4/s1600/korkers+010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="206" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-U5A5DGJ3eCo/UFEsp7Cl3NI/AAAAAAAACws/pi0H0XxYSp4/s320/korkers+010.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
After they have cooled, about 5 minutes, take the clothespins off and loosen the ribbon on the dowel. The ribbon then will slide off in one long curly piece! Wow, this is the part that reminds me of Christmas. I find it exciting every time ( I know, it is possible I need to get a life!)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3y28JqNSm4g/UFEsldty_rI/AAAAAAAACwU/PdAZdIDXCho/s1600/korkers+005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3y28JqNSm4g/UFEsldty_rI/AAAAAAAACwU/PdAZdIDXCho/s320/korkers+005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zUENamKpuHU/UFEsmoSQO-I/AAAAAAAACwc/5l5MFqIktE4/s1600/korkers+006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="280" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zUENamKpuHU/UFEsmoSQO-I/AAAAAAAACwc/5l5MFqIktE4/s320/korkers+006.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0edCSsrqF8w/UFEsoCfxyOI/AAAAAAAACwk/qNay7t-8nj0/s1600/korkers+009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0edCSsrqF8w/UFEsoCfxyOI/AAAAAAAACwk/qNay7t-8nj0/s320/korkers+009.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I trim up both ends of the ribbon where they were secured by the clothespins and then cut each ribbon 2 1/2 or 3 inches long. I cut at an angle, but if you are going to seal the ends it doesn't really matter how you cut them. You can play around with this, you may like them shorter or longer. It is all up to you. I seal each end with a lighter so they do not fray.<br />
<br />
There you have it, a mound of Korkers! It is such fun!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Have you ever had one of those days when you just wanted to kick yourself? Well I had one of those last weekend! I had made a darling Tennessee Vol set encluding a dress made of Tennesse Vol fabric, an orange and white Korker ribbon elastic headband, and a Tennessee Vols plush blanket for my grand-daughter's baby shower and forgot to take a picture of it before I wrapped it. I was so angry with myself, but I decided I could just take a picture when she opened it. Well, what is the saying about best laid plans? I didn't want to just take a photo of my gift so I was busy taking all kinds of photos and before she was able to open my gift my camera's battery died. So..there you have it, really wanted to kick myself in the butt!<br />
<br />
The shower was awesome tho and I did get some great photos. She received so many beautiful and useful things and she and her husband, plus the two grands and the one Great Grand..me, were very happy and excited.<br />
<br />
Tina, my stepdaughter and Mom of the Mom to be, made the cutest baby in a bassinet It was all fruit! The bassinet was made of a watermelon and cantaloupe, grapes and other melon made up the baby and blanket. I had never seen one and it was so cute! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ML-lNz709Xk/UDpsLADWnSI/AAAAAAAACmY/e-HKq6pqEls/s1600/sbabyshower%2Band%2Bburpcloths%2Bfor%2Betsy%2B007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ML-lNz709Xk/UDpsLADWnSI/AAAAAAAACmY/e-HKq6pqEls/s400/sbabyshower%2Band%2Bburpcloths%2Bfor%2Betsy%2B007.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Isn't that just the cutest little thing ever?<br />
<br />
The cake was pretty awesome too. Sheila's theme was giraffes and her cake went right along with the theme. I must say that I am glad a few others ate some before I did as it let me see that I need to avoid the black frosting!<br />

All in all it was a very happy, exciting and awesome time, even if I did not get a photo of the Tennessee Vol set I made. I did get a couple of pictures of the wrapped gift tho, and I do have a picture of the set I made for her the weekend before.<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here are this weeks questions:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Trebuchet, 'Trebuchet MS', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 26.683332443237305px;">
<b style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif;">1. How was your weekend?</b></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Trebuchet, 'Trebuchet MS', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 26.683332443237305px;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span><b style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif;">2. What is your favorite kind of candy?</b></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Trebuchet, 'Trebuchet MS', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 26.683332443237305px;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span><b style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif;">3. If I say the word 'high' what do you think?</b></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Trebuchet, 'Trebuchet MS', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 26.683332443237305px;">
<span style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b></span><b style="color: #222222; font-family: arial, sans-serif;">4. What are you most looking forward to about Autumn?</b></div>
And my question for number </div>
<div>
5. <b>Do you use a laptop or a desktop computer?</b></div>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div>
And my answers:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1. My weekend was wonderful just way too short, but it always is! I did get a lot of sewing finished and had some fantastic news. (More on that at a later date).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2. Well I used to love the candy bar Mr. Goodbar until I bought one several years ago at a small market. As I was eating it I thought I saw a peanut move only to realize it was a maggot. UGH! After throwing up for about one solid hour I was able to get over it, but I have never eaten another one and most likely never will! I no longer have a favorite candy. :(</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
3. If I say or hear the word high I immediately think of dizzy. I have such a huge fear of heights that just thinking about it makes me sick to my stomach! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
4. The thing I am looking forward to about Autumn is Tennessee Football! I love the Vols and am hoping for a wonderful season! We certainly could use one, but I will be watching and cheering them on regardless!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
5. I used a desktop for many years, about four years ago I bought my first laptop and I will never go back to using a desktop again, well I hope to never go back to using a desktop again! I love my laptop!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Hope you all have a fantastic Monday!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Happy Sewing!</div>Gloria Hayneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11121304507690384263noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1234595988985748549.post-23736291726504098412012-08-12T16:51:00.000-04:002012-08-12T16:51:21.270-04:00All Things Baby..Great Grand That Is!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HtL_k4A-Czg/UCgHsOdyWdI/AAAAAAAACiw/wgcKoSI1Vpk/s1600/Great%2BGrand%2Band%2B1%2Bbarrat%2B011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HtL_k4A-Czg/UCgHsOdyWdI/AAAAAAAACiw/wgcKoSI1Vpk/s320/Great%2BGrand%2Band%2B1%2Bbarrat%2B011.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have had a really busy weekend. I have not had much time to sew for my <a href="http://etsy.com/shop/gloscraftycreations" target="_blank">Etsy</a> because I have a more personal reason for sewing this weekend. <br />
<br />
As most of you know I had a sweet little Grand born in June, but the little bundle of joy I am sewing for this weekend will be here in late September and she will be my first Great Grand! I know I can't believe I will be a Great Grandmother either, but I am very excited and can hardly wait to meet Little Miss Mackenzie. Her shower is August 19th, so I have been getting a few things ready. I have a few more things to make and hope to finish up this coming week.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eKC3pG1I6wo/UCgK0kTlyOI/AAAAAAAACjg/l0beUxRD_Fw/s1600/Great%2BGrand%2Band%2B1%2Bbarrat%2B007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eKC3pG1I6wo/UCgK0kTlyOI/AAAAAAAACjg/l0beUxRD_Fw/s320/Great%2BGrand%2Band%2B1%2Bbarrat%2B007.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
This little dress is all about traveling turtles! It is completely lined and ties on the shoulders. It is a newborn size, fits up to 13 pounds. Sure hope Miss Mackenzie is not too big!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tqvxqaBkffE/UCgLZah-BOI/AAAAAAAACjs/DyrqK5W5VSY/s1600/Great%2BGrand%2Band%2B1%2Bbarrat%2B004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tqvxqaBkffE/UCgLZah-BOI/AAAAAAAACjs/DyrqK5W5VSY/s320/Great%2BGrand%2Band%2B1%2Bbarrat%2B004.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I made this sweet little elastic headband to match. It has a satin rose that matches some of the turtles on the dress and the super soft, super wide elastic should be extra easy on Mackenzie's sweet little head. I covered the sewn seam on the elastic with soft felt to make it even more comfy.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e0BapTXWDR4/UCgLxAaQoAI/AAAAAAAACj4/A9xfkJyfrYY/s1600/Great%2BGrand%2Band%2B1%2Bbarrat%2B008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-e0BapTXWDR4/UCgLxAaQoAI/AAAAAAAACj4/A9xfkJyfrYY/s320/Great%2BGrand%2Band%2B1%2Bbarrat%2B008.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This blanket is reversible and has pink minky dot fabric on one side and sage green super soft minky fabric on the other. It is trimmed with pink satin binding. It is super soft and cuddly and the green matches some of the turtles on the dress.(trying to keep a color theme going here)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2BXW-4hz4ZU/UCgM3WYCwjI/AAAAAAAACkE/HEyScxFqmUs/s1600/Great%2BGrand%2Band%2B1%2Bbarrat%2B011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2BXW-4hz4ZU/UCgM3WYCwjI/AAAAAAAACkE/HEyScxFqmUs/s320/Great%2BGrand%2Band%2B1%2Bbarrat%2B011.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Sure hope Mackenzie loves her gifts, I have a couple of more things to make and I will be ready to attend the shower and celebrate the coming of this precious little angel. <br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Welcome to Monday Quiz About Me. I am joining <a href="http://actingbalanced.com/" target="_blank">Acting balanced</a> and several other bloggers that get together every Monday and answer the 4 questions <a href="http://actingbalanced.com/" target="_blank">Acting Balanced</a> gives us and the one each blogger adds to it. Five questions in all and the 5th one is constantly changing. It is a lot of fun, if you are interested in joining us head on over to <a href="http://actingbalanced.com/" target="_blank">Acting Balanced</a> and <a href="http://actingbalanced.com/" target="_blank">Monday Quiz About Me</a>.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
1. If you could be on a reality tv show which one would you want to be a part of?<br />
<br />
2. You have the power to create one law, what would it be?<br />
<br />
3. How's your weather today?<br />
<br />
4. Other than the country you currently live in, where would you want to live?<br />
<br />
5. My question is ... What is your favorite sport to watch on television and will you watch any of the Olympics this year.<br />
<br />
Now, on to my answers:<br />
<br />
1. If I could be on any reality tv show it would have to be Who Do You Think You Are. I would love to have all the means made available to me to find out about my ancestors. That would be a dream come true.<br />
<br />
2. If I had the power to create one law, it would be that television news crews must administer some kind of mental assessment before they interview an eyewitness for a local news broadcast. Maybe it is because I live in a small southern town, but good grief, I don't know where they find some of the dummies they put on our local news.<br />
<br />
3. The weather here today was wonderful. Mostly sunny with just a few scattered showers around.<br />
<br />
4. I have to say I love America, I know it has a lot of problems at the moment, but all in all it is a wonderful country and I am so blessed to have been born here. BUT, I love Jamaica too, If ever I move out of the country, look for me in Jamaica, that is where I will be.<br />
<br />
5. I love college softball. I could watch it for hours. I also love to watch football, especially college. <br />
I may watch some of the Olympics this year,(swimming, volleyball, and gymnastics) but I won't stay glued to the television like I do during the winter Olympics.<br />
<br />
Have a wonderful Monday everyone!<br />
Happy Sewing<br />

What a great time we had at the beach. Not only sun, sand and surf, but lots of quality time with the family!<span style="background-color: white;"> Atlantic Beach and the entire Bogue Sound is beautiful and I must add that it is wonderful having family that lives there, knows the place inside out and has the means to take you </span><span style="background-color: white;">(by land or by sea) to all the great places to visit!</span><br />
<br />
We began our visit by going to the Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores . We all had such a great time and saw so many wonderful and different kinds of aquatic life. It was very hot and windy the day we visited the aquarium, perfect for indoor activities.<br />

<br />
We visited an island in the sound named Sand Dollar Island. It is a place that is only visible when the tide is low. It was kind of hairy getting there, because of all the sand bars it was difficult to navigate, but it sure was worth it! When the island rises it is a sand dollar lovers feast! We all found sand dollars. Did you know they are actually dark brown when they are living and only turn white when they die. Learn something new every day! <br />

One of my favorite places in the whole world is Shackleford Banks. It is an amazing thing to be in the ocean and see horses running on an island.<br />
<br />
You can go and spend the entire day on the island if you wish, and tho we didn't spend the entire day, we did spend some time on the island and were lucky enough to see the horses. They are beautiful creatures!<br />

<br />
<br />
Well it is that time again, time for our annual trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Atlantic Beach here we come! This year I will have my one of a kind bag to take with me! Super roomy and just my style!<br />
<br />
I started this travel bag in January, actually it was part of a Sew A Long and I was suppose to have it finished by Valentine's Day, but then I started sewing for Harper ( my grand-daughter that was born on the 11th of this month) and put the bag on the back burner for a while. I am happy to say that it is finished now, just in time for the beach!<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">made with double sided pre-quilted fabric</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I am happy with the final product, even if I am four months late getting it finished. It is very roomy with two pockets inside, 2 zippered pockets on the front and one large pocket with Velcro closure on the back.
I love the colors, and am really proud to be able to carry it when we go to the beach. It was a snap to sew and really did not take very long once I was able to put my mind on it and off sewing for baby!<br />

She is perfect in every way! I am so happy she was born before Father's Day. Now I have all three sons celebrating the glory of Fatherhood. Happy Father's Day to all of the wonderful fathers on this great big planet we all call home.<br />
<br />
I shared a very special moment with Harper on Wednesday. I guess I was already feeling a little nostalgic as Wednesday was the 40th anniversary of the death of my father. As I was holding Harper and taking in all her precious little features, I realized she has the shape of my Dad's head. It was a very emotional moment for me and I quietly sat there with her and enjoyed that special moment we were sharing. My father passed away on the the 13th of June in 1972. This year each day falls as it did that year. The 13th was a Wednesday, he was buried on Friday the 15th and Father's Day was on the 17th. For some reason on these identical years it is always a little bit more emotional for me. It Seems to Brings back so many more of those difficult but dear memories. As I sat there studying Harper and thinking of my Dad, I realized how wonderful it is that although he has been gone for 40 years, he is still so alive in all of us. What a comfort to know he is alive and well in a small baby girl that was born almost 40 years(to the day)after his death. The moment I realized this, it was like I could see him smiling and hear his wonderful laughter and I new all was right in my world. Thank you Harper for such a special and private moment, and I cannot wait to share it with you when you are just a wee bit older!Gloria Hayneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11121304507690384263noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1234595988985748549.post-15879777548818403752012-06-01T21:32:00.001-04:002012-06-01T21:32:23.104-04:00Summer Break Brings Lazy Days<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yzsy7CkF0HI/T8lC66OA7HI/AAAAAAAACA8/7LjcJHw703Y/s1600/butterfly%2Bdress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yzsy7CkF0HI/T8lC66OA7HI/AAAAAAAACA8/7LjcJHw703Y/s400/butterfly%2Bdress.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I realize it is not officially summer, but I have been taking it easy and enjoying my first week of summer break. I know it has been a while since I last posted here, but sometimes I just have to be lazy and do nothing! I know it isn't very productive, but it sure is enjoyable!<br />
<br />
I have not been so lazy that I have neglected my sewing! I have made a large crib blanket and also a little dress and diaper cover for Harper. She will be joining us sometime this month, I can't wait to see that little bundle of joy!<br />
<br />
The dress I made was New Look number 6793. Which is an adorable little dress that ties on the shoulders.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NfsOYMAYsIQ/T8lEEnrVioI/AAAAAAAACBI/6SxOPzV8JRU/s1600/6793.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="388" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NfsOYMAYsIQ/T8lEEnrVioI/AAAAAAAACBI/6SxOPzV8JRU/s400/6793.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I made a size small which fits up to 13 pounds.( shortly after I made it my daughter-in-law found out by ultrasound that Harper already weighs 7lb. and 10 oz. Oh my goodness!) The pattern include some appliques, but I chose to machine embroider a butterfly on the front instead. The appliques seemed a bit large to me. I also chose the view that has no ruffle along the hem.(will save that one until she is a little older) The view I chose has an extra piece along the bottom that turns up on the right side of the fabric to form a hem which adds a little something around the hem line. I used the same fabric as the dress, it calls for coordinated fabric, but it is such a small dress, I didn't want it to seem to "busy".<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
I found the diaper cover I made at <a href="http://www.danamadeit.com/2008/07/tutorial-the-perfect-diaper-cover.html" target="_blank">dana-made-it.com</a> it is called The Perfect Diaper Cover and it really is. It is a breeze to make and only takes a few minutes. I used PUL (polyurethane laminate) made by Babyville Boutique and used braided elastic, also made by Babyville, around the legs and waist. A free pattern and a complete tutorial are available at <a href="http://www.danamadeit.com/2008/07/tutorial-the-perfect-diaper-cover.html" target="_blank">Dana-made-it</a>. She has a great website with many tutorials for all kinds of very cute items.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
I made a burpcloth/changing pad using the PUL and flannel too. It is my own pattern, if you want to call it that. It is a 19 inch by 14 inch rectangle,PUL on one side and faced with flannel. I rounded the corners and then serged along the edge. Easy, peasy!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SwMolMt-aLQ/T8lKPYLCOvI/AAAAAAAACCE/_DHbist4IHI/s1600/SAM_0293.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SwMolMt-aLQ/T8lKPYLCOvI/AAAAAAAACCE/_DHbist4IHI/s400/SAM_0293.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The blanket was easy too, of course! I used baby fleece and the blanket is 54 inches by 60 inches and is finished with satin blanket binding. <br />

<br />
Now for the first "first" for me! On Friday we attended a <i>Reveal The Sex of The Baby Party</i>, what great fun that was! It is going to be our first Great Grand Child! My husbands oldest grand daughter is due in September.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TtgHS95OzvE/T7BOXUEp5DI/AAAAAAAAB9U/H-ANJwYSmZA/s1600/SAM_0236.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-TtgHS95OzvE/T7BOXUEp5DI/AAAAAAAAB9U/H-ANJwYSmZA/s400/SAM_0236.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I have to admit that Sheila had some wonderful ideas and executed them very well! When we first arrived at the party we were given a chance to guess boy or girl, and given the fact that the Bobster has two daughters, and each of them have two daughters, I had to vote for a boy. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tHMTv2GXqmY/T7BOKaQqNWI/AAAAAAAAB9I/X0AvCsBtPxs/s1600/SAM_0251.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tHMTv2GXqmY/T7BOKaQqNWI/AAAAAAAAB9I/X0AvCsBtPxs/s400/SAM_0251.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
After everyone arrived and had been given the chance to vote for their choice the big news was revealed! <br />

It has been a very busy week, but a very wonder filled week. So many wonderful things yet to come in my life, come September I will be able to add another "first" to the list, my first great grandchild!<br />
<br />
Seems strange that I am going to have a grand-daughter born in June and a great grand-daughter born in September! My life is filled with blessings!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This is the easiest dress ever and takes only ten to twenty minutes from cutout to finish! Even though it is called the pillowcase dress, I actually made this one from a remnant I had. I plan on donating a dress like this dress to the Little Dresses for Africa Charity. Here is a <a href="http://www.littledressesforafrica.org/" target="_blank">link</a> to their website. <br />
<br />
This dress is cut to fit a size 2 ( a child about 2 years old). I cut a rectangle 19 by 21 (21 being the length). The pattern on the website is made from an actual pillowcase and does not cut out the armholes, just leaves an unstitched area at the top of each side seam to fold under and stitch for the arm area,( here is a <a href="http://www.littledressesforafrica.org/blog/?page_id=477" target="_blank">link</a> to the directions for the dress using a pillowcase on the website) I personally do not like the looks of that style, so I cut a wedge about 31/2 inches across at the top and angling down to nothing to the side ( about 4 or 5 inches long). I just eyeballed it, no particular measurements.<br />
<br />
With wrong sides together, I serged the side seams with a narrow seam, pressed each side seam and turned right sides together. I pressed from the right side, pressing the seam to one side and stitched the seam encasing the serged edge. No exposed seams! <br />
<br />

Next I enclosed the armhole opening with bias tape, turned to the inside, pressed and stitched into place. I then enclosed the top with bias tape and used it as the casing for the ribbon used for the ties. On this dress I stitched across the ends after gathering the top where I wanted it and then tied the ribbon for the finished product!

<br />
After making a reversible flannel blanket, I had a touch of the print flannel fabric left over. I decided to try and find a use for it. I coupled it with a solid, light pink flannel and cut both into four rectangles 15 inches by 20 inches. I used one solid and one print to make one pad. I rounded the corners and serged the edge and voila... 2 changing pads, burping pads or lap pads. Too easy!<br />
<br />
I made the blanket out of the same print flannel shown above and backed it with a light blue flannel, trimmed out in yellow blanket trim. I love the colors in the print flannel. So cute!

Last week at the baby shower a lady was wearing a nursing sling. Have you seen those? Man, they are so cool. I would say her little boy was about 18 - 20 months and she carried him in it while nursing and was able to keep her privacy. I was amazed that just a piece of fabric could do so much!
<br />
<br />
I found a website that sells a version called the Maya Wrap, and it looks a lot like the one she was wearing. some of them even have a pocket for a diaper and wipes or keys, how convenient is that? <a href="http://mayawrap.com/" target="_blank">MayaWrap.com</a> sells ready to wear wraps, but they also have a tutorial page so you can make your own, you know I have to try making one. Look for it to be coming soon to my blog! You can find the tutorial <a href="http://www.mayawrap.com/n_sewsling.php" target="_blank">here.</a><br />

I also have to announce that I won a giveaway this week on the <a href="http://elephantislove.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Elephant Is Love</a> blog! It is a handmade sachet, I can't wait to get it. I will be sure and post it on the blog so you all can see! I am so excited. I hardly ever win anything. Thanks Punky!<br />

Last but not least, I want to share my beautiful Knock Out Rose Bush. It is so full of roses that it is about to burst! Considering my husband ran over it while sliding out of the driveway in the snow in Jan of 2011, it is doing great! I am so proud of it, it was a gift from my step daughters on Mother's Day, 2010. It has grown like crazy!<br />

<br />
<br />
Again this week I am joining <a href="http://actingbalanced.com/" target="_blank">Acting Balanced</a> for her Monday Quiz About Me. She will ask four questions for me to answer and I will finish up with a fifth question for you to answer. It is a lot of fun and a great way to get to know other bloggers. If you would like to join up and hop around with us just click on the pictured link above.<br />
<br />
Ok, let's get started! This questions for this week are:<br />
<br />
<br />
1. Finish this sentence - I am glad it's Monday because...<br />
<br />
2. Where did you spend your last vacation?<br />
<br />
3. Who is your favorite author?<br />
<br />
4. What other Memes do you participate in during the week?<br />
<br />
Here are my answers:<br />
<br />
1. I am glad it is Monday because...It is the beginning of a new week and when the week draws to a close on Friday, it will be only 3 weeks and four days until school is out for the summer..ahh summer break!! Yippee!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B-PEhgeqbv8/T5S7WI_dMkI/AAAAAAAAB1g/2NGGmEfbpdI/s1600/school.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B-PEhgeqbv8/T5S7WI_dMkI/AAAAAAAAB1g/2NGGmEfbpdI/s400/school.jpg" width="223" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
2. I spent my last vacation where we always spend our vacation. Atlantic Beach, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. No where else in the world I would rather be!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3Xuw0_Nuxu4/T5S8MqlS8RI/AAAAAAAAB1s/kAAmHIYb3nI/s1600/100_0556.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3Xuw0_Nuxu4/T5S8MqlS8RI/AAAAAAAAB1s/kAAmHIYb3nI/s400/100_0556.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
I have so many favorite authors that it is hard to choose just one. Pleasure reading would be Stephen King or Dean Koontz, but for sewing information it is Nancy Zieman, no doubt about that! I love reading them all on my kindle, I love it!
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sntsuOVl0eM/T5S_oak0u6I/AAAAAAAAB14/Tc0Jc4jU-HM/s1600/kindle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="186" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sntsuOVl0eM/T5S_oak0u6I/AAAAAAAAB14/Tc0Jc4jU-HM/s400/kindle.jpg" width="209" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
4. Presently this is the only meme I participate in. Although I find them great fun, I think too many of them would take me away from the main reason for my blog. Sewing, crafting, and family have to be the main bulk of what I do on my blog, but I could always change my mind and join up with more! You just never know about me! lol<br />
<br />
Ok, here is the 5th question for all of you to answer:<br />
<br />
5. I recently lost my best bud, my yellow lab named Buddy. Labs are very gentle and large dogs. Which do you prefer, a large dog or a small dog, and what is your favorite breed of dog. I have been looking at those teddy bear dogs alot, they are a kind of designer dog and they look precious! <br />
<br />
So there it is, let me know your favorite kind of dog, what kind and is it large or small. <br />
<br />
I hope you all have a great Monday!Gloria Hayneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11121304507690384263noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1234595988985748549.post-32472554279739064012012-04-22T12:52:00.000-04:002012-04-22T12:52:09.930-04:00Box Full of Baby Goodies<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
The baby shower for Harper was yesterday. She had a great turn out of family to celebrate the anticipation of her birth sometime in June. She is going to be the best dressed baby girl in town! Christa was absolutely glowing with pride and excitement!
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UShYaESKBqE/T5Ql-l0ldPI/AAAAAAAABy4/icb73Qy-IS4/s1600/SAM_0170.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UShYaESKBqE/T5Ql-l0ldPI/AAAAAAAABy4/icb73Qy-IS4/s400/SAM_0170.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5pT8zex18Q4/T5Ql-xz3-HI/AAAAAAAABzI/DFdnKGLoW-A/s1600/SAM_0171.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5pT8zex18Q4/T5Ql-xz3-HI/AAAAAAAABzI/DFdnKGLoW-A/s400/SAM_0171.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have had so much fun getting ready for Baby Harper! Although she is not my first grandchild (not by a long shot!) she is the first one to be born since I have taken up sewing again, I had forgotten how much I enjoyed sewing for children! I made a few things last summer for my grand-daughters and plan to make a lot more, but it has really been fun getting ready for a newborn!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3DaInyvTJ-I/T5QqeL8SAkI/AAAAAAAABzc/mDInzDmOuOc/s1600/SAM_0159.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3DaInyvTJ-I/T5QqeL8SAkI/AAAAAAAABzc/mDInzDmOuOc/s400/SAM_0159.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Packing the box for the shower gift was so much fun, I had bought a few things, a book of lullabies with the cd to match, the wireless video baby monitor they wanted, a couple of wrist rattlers, two door hangers one that says, "shh, mommy is napping" and one that says, "quiet, the princess is sleeping", and a set of small snack keepers.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vlOE7MPQ_1o/T5QoquXLNGI/AAAAAAAABzQ/IXspKtmMFeM/s1600/SAM_0160.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vlOE7MPQ_1o/T5QoquXLNGI/AAAAAAAABzQ/IXspKtmMFeM/s400/SAM_0160.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
To these things I added the items that were made by Nana for my special little one! The first thing was the turtle blankie I made and blogged about in my post <a href="http://glosews.blogspot.com/2012/01/quick-and-easy-baby-blanket.html" target="_blank">Quick and Easy Baby Blanket</a>. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7n-rF_6F7yw/T5QvGnWY5iI/AAAAAAAABzo/AyNOHXQmtGs/s1600/SAM_0157.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7n-rF_6F7yw/T5QvGnWY5iI/AAAAAAAABzo/AyNOHXQmtGs/s400/SAM_0157.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oJ2vXAs0fkw/T5QvG1dguyI/AAAAAAAABz0/AGPTeyurfzE/s1600/SAM_0161.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oJ2vXAs0fkw/T5QvG1dguyI/AAAAAAAABz0/AGPTeyurfzE/s400/SAM_0161.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Next was a Turquoise Minky blanket I made with a satin border. It is so soft and cuddly, I almost wanted to keep it! LOL<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RIAed5FxsZE/T5Qv8tBe0oI/AAAAAAAAB0A/5ObEIjdMn1Q/s1600/SAM_0154.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RIAed5FxsZE/T5Qv8tBe0oI/AAAAAAAAB0A/5ObEIjdMn1Q/s400/SAM_0154.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F8dUAqTf8K8/T5Qv9GN7mBI/AAAAAAAAB0M/9rvo--6MHQ8/s1600/SAM_0162.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-F8dUAqTf8K8/T5Qv9GN7mBI/AAAAAAAAB0M/9rvo--6MHQ8/s400/SAM_0162.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Next was the white with pink border blankie I made. It is a very light weight cotton (Ballard Bliss) for those summer days and nights when she will need a little something, but a regular blankie would be too warm.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kNKEA_s3HEQ/T5QwcuwqXlI/AAAAAAAAB0Y/aQOhp-iV5Bo/s1600/SAM_0155.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kNKEA_s3HEQ/T5QwcuwqXlI/AAAAAAAAB0Y/aQOhp-iV5Bo/s400/SAM_0155.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-21vPntIZnjk/T5QwdFfqmAI/AAAAAAAAB0k/Lx-4a6icRi0/s1600/SAM_0163.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-21vPntIZnjk/T5QwdFfqmAI/AAAAAAAAB0k/Lx-4a6icRi0/s400/SAM_0163.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Last, was the little top and bloomers set I blogged about on my post <a href="http://glosews.blogspot.com/2012/04/dress-for-baby-harper.html" target="_blank">Dress for Baby Harper</a>. It is so darling! It was a big hit at the shower!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Qxqqthd7a_Q/T5QxstV-qEI/AAAAAAAAB0w/XCtkDiI3OzI/s1600/Harper%2527s%2Bdress%2Bcollage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Qxqqthd7a_Q/T5QxstV-qEI/AAAAAAAAB0w/XCtkDiI3OzI/s400/Harper%2527s%2Bdress%2Bcollage.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XJXJE3_Ze9I/T5Qxs5_QAvI/AAAAAAAAB08/toN3K-K1iEc/s1600/SAM_0164.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XJXJE3_Ze9I/T5Qxs5_QAvI/AAAAAAAAB08/toN3K-K1iEc/s400/SAM_0164.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I covered it all with a piece of tissue, placed the card on top and put the lid on the box.<br />

I am taking part in the blog hop hosted by <a href="http://www.actingbalanced.com/" target="_blank">Acting Balanced</a>. This is taking the place of the Meet Me On Monday hop. If you would like to join us in this fun hop, click the link at the top of this post! Hope to see your blog listed!<br />
<br />
Every week she will ask four questions and I will add a fifth that you can answer in the comment section. Have a great Monday!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
This week's four questions are:<br />
<br />
1. Finish this sentence - I dream of....<br />
2. If you could choose your last meal, what would it be?<br />
3. What was your favorite toy as a child?<br />
4. What color looks best on you?<br />
<br />
Here are my answers:<br />
<br />
1. I dream of a world filled with peace and happiness. I know that sounds like a cop out, but that is really what I dream about.<br />
<br />
2. Wow not sure I want to think about my last meal, but it would be a filet mignon steak grilled to perfection, my husband's broccoli casserole, baked potato filled with butter, sour cream and cheese and a huge glass of sweet tea! YUM<br />
<br />
3. My favorite toy was a "Baby Dear" doll. She was soft and looked like a real baby. I carried her to school with me almost every day. I even rode around with her on my bicycle!<br />
<br />
4. I am not sure what color I look best in, I used to wear purple all the time (Red Hat Society) but now I wear a lot of greens ( lime shades), peaches, corals, and turquoise. But I wear a lot of black too. Go figure <br />
<br />
<br />
Ok, here is the question for you to answer:<br />
<br />
Do you have any big plans for the summer season. I am going to the beach in North Carolina, how bout you?<br />
<br />
Have a great week everyone!<br />
<br />
Happy Sewing!<br />

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UD7ObHJNijs/T4tl1udEk8I/AAAAAAAABws/W1mBylmTcWo/s1600/SAM_0061.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UD7ObHJNijs/T4tl1udEk8I/AAAAAAAABws/W1mBylmTcWo/s400/SAM_0061.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This was such a joyous project and so much fun! I love the Kwik Sew pattern #3901 and it all went together like a breeze!
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vXyiL6fx1A8/T4tmigPengI/AAAAAAAABw4/MmYIAy9zJig/s1600/SAM_0137.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vXyiL6fx1A8/T4tmigPengI/AAAAAAAABw4/MmYIAy9zJig/s400/SAM_0137.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I really love the fabric and the colors. I think the colors really compliment each other.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8iewtB2tOJ4/T4tm2_gMLzI/AAAAAAAABxE/-h_0vNvXvtE/s1600/SAM_0138.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8iewtB2tOJ4/T4tm2_gMLzI/AAAAAAAABxE/-h_0vNvXvtE/s400/SAM_0138.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This was the first time I have ever made little bloomers. They look so cute, even unfinished!
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pD6oX_IwPVI/T4tnMGXkPxI/AAAAAAAABxQ/tSdUHB7DPmM/s1600/SAM_0141.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pD6oX_IwPVI/T4tnMGXkPxI/AAAAAAAABxQ/tSdUHB7DPmM/s400/SAM_0141.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
But finished they are even cuter! I love the skirt effect! This pattern does have some ruffles, but using a zig zag stitch over a piece of yarn to make your gathers is much easier then doing the two rows of stitching. If you have never tried the zig zag over yarn trick, try it next time you do gathers. I love it, gathers don't even worry me any more! (I hope to one day have a ruffling foot, that would even be better!)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-V8YGAIswRts/T4tnZSpXFdI/AAAAAAAABxc/4tCzLB0VHNc/s1600/SAM_0143.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-V8YGAIswRts/T4tnZSpXFdI/AAAAAAAABxc/4tCzLB0VHNc/s400/SAM_0143.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I added a little bow to the right lower front. I just felt it needed a little something.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CGrkyJO5R8k/T4tnquoSZtI/AAAAAAAABxo/gJ_9XfHKpMs/s1600/SAM_0147.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CGrkyJO5R8k/T4tnquoSZtI/AAAAAAAABxo/gJ_9XfHKpMs/s400/SAM_0147.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The Pattern called for the back to close the other way, but I guess I am just opposite of normal lol, I like it with the overlap going to the left. I used flat buttons so they won't dig into Harper as she naps or sits in her car seat.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rbx0NeV3GcE/T4towmIleoI/AAAAAAAABx0/qDCPj0CEj5o/s1600/SAM_0148.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rbx0NeV3GcE/T4towmIleoI/AAAAAAAABx0/qDCPj0CEj5o/s400/SAM_0148.JPG" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I can't wait to see Harper wearing this little dress, well I can't wait to see Harper period!! If you are looking for a cute pattern for baby, and one that is easy to make you should try Kwik Sew 3901. It really is a great pattern! Happy Sewing!Gloria Hayneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11121304507690384263noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1234595988985748549.post-56714218097172052862012-04-04T20:51:00.000-04:002012-04-04T21:00:40.698-04:00Getting The Most From Your Multisize Patterns<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_Xeg5zExhTE/T3zX05J61xI/AAAAAAAABuU/DG-szyjxCSc/s1600/SAM_0055.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_Xeg5zExhTE/T3zX05J61xI/AAAAAAAABuU/DG-szyjxCSc/s400/SAM_0055.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Buying a multisize pattern is a great way to make your sewing dollars go further, but not if you have to trim it away just to make one size. I have found that tracing the pattern onto either wax paper or freezer paper can give you great results without ruining you paper pattern, thus allowing you to use it again for a different size.<br />
<br />
I prefer using wax paper because it is easy to see through. To do this you will need:<br />
1. a roll of wax paper<br />
2. tracing wheel<br />
3. permanent marker or ink pen( I prefer an ink pen as a marker sometimes smudges)<br />
4. multisize pattern of your choice.<br />
5. zip lock bag<br />
<br />
I am tracing a Kwik Sew pattern for a baby. I love Kwik Sew patterns, they use such a great grade of paper for their patterns. This pattern is extra easy because all the pieces fit within the width of the wax paper, but if yours do not you can simply tape as many pieces together as you find necessary.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FCBZ53vqRn8/T3zabBzNvnI/AAAAAAAABug/o70cd9Ujd1M/s1600/SAM_0059.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FCBZ53vqRn8/T3zabBzNvnI/AAAAAAAABug/o70cd9Ujd1M/s400/SAM_0059.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
After determining which size you are going to use, place a piece of wax paper on top and secure with pins. Take the tracing wheel and go along all the lines of the pattern piece. Write all the info on the wax paper piece (size, pattern type, brand and number, strait of grain, small dots, large dots, front, back, gather lines,and any other info you might need). Now simply trim the wax paper piece ( be sure to use your paper only scissors when trimming the wax paper pattern piece). You can trace around and cut out the notches if you like, but I usually just cut them off because I mark them by making a slash inward toward the inside point on my pattern pieces as I cut out the fabric.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N8_FfoCbkRA/T3zcVzjAwaI/AAAAAAAABus/NO9EuUhlFE0/s1600/SAM_0052.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N8_FfoCbkRA/T3zcVzjAwaI/AAAAAAAABus/NO9EuUhlFE0/s400/SAM_0052.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6YfFrV6U1cY/T3zcWe1043I/AAAAAAAABu0/kYXQLAqJaJA/s1600/SAM_0053.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6YfFrV6U1cY/T3zcWe1043I/AAAAAAAABu0/kYXQLAqJaJA/s400/SAM_0053.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
You could also just trace the lines using a marker and cut along the lines, but I find the tracing wheel works best for me. After I trace each piece I mark the original pattern piece with a check mark and write the size I am tracing inside the check mark, this helps me double check that all the pieces have been traced for the size I am tracing. Keep repeating the process until all of your pieces have been traced and cut out.<br />
<br />
I like to keep the pattern pieces I have made in a large size zip lock bag. I make a copy of the front of the pattern and a copy of the back of the pattern and sandwich my wax paper pieces between them and slide into the bag. I make sure to write the size on the front copy.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BiOoaKiXWNA/T3zmm58Hu_I/AAAAAAAABvE/mZke676k2ew/s1600/SAM_0056.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BiOoaKiXWNA/T3zmm58Hu_I/AAAAAAAABvE/mZke676k2ew/s400/SAM_0056.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bxIwyMhp_ME/T3zmndKa6xI/AAAAAAAABvQ/i41fl1bf_KA/s1600/SAM_0057.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bxIwyMhp_ME/T3zmndKa6xI/AAAAAAAABvQ/i41fl1bf_KA/s400/SAM_0057.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Hope you find this works for you and enables you to use your multisize patterns multable times! (You could press your wax paper pieces onto freezer paper if you plan on using them several times, this will make them a little more stable).<br />
<br />
Well I am all ready to start sewing! Sure hope little Harper likes this dress when she finally arrives and is able to wear it!
<br />
